Å Herre . . .*

Free?
O LORD!*
Your service, Lord, they say is perfect freedom.
1999 - page 73 |
It's true that I'm allowed a lot of choice!
In many things it seems you've no opinion
—At any rate I do not hear your voice.
I please myself a thousand times unbridled.
Large areas are simply left to me!
Quite unadvised, you trust me to choose wisely,
But Master, please, I don't want to be 'free’!
When most I need you, let me hear your whisper
Which pours your wisdom in my willing ear,
Directing me in making 'my' decision,
For that's the way I like it, have no fear!

It's true, of course, that there is no coercion.
You never force my hand or threaten me;
The fact I choose obedience alters nothing,
Who calls you Master is for ever free!
